Explanation

จำได้ combines จำ, “to remember or memorize,” with ได้, “can,” but in real use it often describes the present state of remembering: “I remember” or “I can recall it.” The common pattern is จำ + object + ได้, as in จำชื่อได้ “remember the name” or จำหน้าได้ “recognize the face.” If the object is clear from context, จำได้ by itself means “I remember.” The normal negative form is จำไม่ได้, meaning “don’t remember” or “can’t recall,” not ไม่จำได้.

Usage

It is used in everyday situations when checking whether someone remembers an event, name, number, word, or lesson, and also when asking whether someone recognizes a face or voice, such as during a reunion or on the phone.

Caution

When saying that you have successfully learned or memorized something, ได้แล้ว is often natural, as in จำคำนี้ได้แล้ว, “I’ve learned/remembered this word now.”
