Explanation
เห็นด้วย conveys the idea of sharing the same view. It can express agreement with someone’s opinion or support for a proposal or plan; these are closely connected uses of a single core meaning. The usual pattern is เห็นด้วยกับ followed by a person, opinion, or proposal. Use เห็นด้วยว่า before a clause stating what you agree with. In conversation, เห็นด้วย can also stand alone as a response meaning “I agree.” The negative form ไม่เห็นด้วย means “disagree” or “not be in favor.” It can be a calm statement of a different view and does not necessarily imply strong opposition.
Usage
Commonly used to agree with someone in conversation, respond to a proposal in a meeting, or state a position on a plan, policy, or agreement. It is natural in both speech and writing.
Caution
When naming the person or thing you agree with, normally use กับ, as in เห็นด้วยกับคุณ (“agree with you”). เห็นด้วย concerns agreement of opinion or position. Do not confuse it with เข้าใจ (“understand”) or ตกลง (“accept, agree to, or make an arrangement”). For active or formal opposition, คัดค้าน may be more appropriate.
