Learning notes

Explanation

วันศุกร์ is the Thai name for Friday. It consists of วัน, meaning “day” or marking a day of the week, and ศุกร์, a word traditionally associated with Venus. When it indicates when something happens, it can be placed directly in the sentence without a preposition: เจอกันวันศุกร์ means “See you on Friday.” Common patterns include วันศุกร์นี้ “this Friday,” วันศุกร์หน้า “next Friday,” and ทุกวันศุกร์ “every Friday.”

Usage

It is used when arranging meetings, discussing school or work schedules, and stating business days or event dates. It is neutral and standard in both everyday conversation and written schedules or notices.

Caution

Do not confuse ศุกร์ with the similar-looking สุข, which relates to happiness or well-being. The day of the week is normally called วันศุกร์ with วัน included. For important plans, adding the calendar date can prevent ambiguity about whether วันศุกร์นี้ or วันศุกร์หน้า refers to a particular Friday.
