Learning notes

Explanation

พรุ่งนี้ is the common, neutral word for the day after today. It is natural in both conversation and writing. It can appear near the beginning or the end of a sentence: พรุ่งนี้ฉันจะไป introduces “tomorrow” as the time frame, while ฉันจะไปพรุ่งนี้ adds it as the time of the action. It often appears with จะ, which marks a future action or intention. In casual conversation, จะ may be omitted when พรุ่งนี้ already makes the future timing clear, as in พรุ่งนี้ไปไหม, “Are you going tomorrow?” A time of day can follow it, as in พรุ่งนี้เช้า, “tomorrow morning,” and พรุ่งนี้เย็น, “tomorrow evening.”

Usage

It is used whenever discussing plans or events for tomorrow, including appointments, work, school, travel, and social arrangements. เจอกันพรุ่งนี้ (“See you tomorrow”) is also a very common parting expression.

Caution

For “the following day” in a past narrative, วันรุ่งขึ้น or วันถัดไป is usually clearer. The day after tomorrow is มะรืน, not พรุ่งนี้.
