Explanation
ดัดผม combines ดัด, “to bend or reshape,” with ผม, “hair.” It refers to giving hair a perm. The person receiving the treatment can be the subject: ฉันดัดผม normally means “I get my hair permed,” not that the speaker personally performs the treatment. When the stylist is the subject, the customer can be introduced with ให้, as in ดัดผมให้ลูกค้า, “perm a customer's hair.” Hair that has been permed can be described as ผมดัด.
Usage
It is commonly used when requesting a salon treatment or talking about plans to get a perm or someone's newly permed hairstyle. Common patterns include ไปดัดผม, “go get a perm,” and อยากดัดผม, “want to get a perm.”
Caution
Do not confuse it with ตัดผม, which means “cut one's hair” or “get a haircut.” For temporarily curling hair with rollers or a curling iron, ม้วนผม is generally more appropriate.
