This is a loanword corresponding to “gram.” Its symbol is g, and 1,000 กรัม equals 1 กิโลกรัม (one kilogram). It normally follows a number. For example, น้ำตาล 50 กรัม means “50 grams of sugar,” while หนัก 50 กรัม means “weighs 50 grams.” To ask how many grams, use กี่กรัม.
Usage
Common in recipes, food labels, medicine quantities, product information, and descriptions of the weight of small objects or packages. It is also used when ordering food or other goods sold by weight.
Caution
Place the unit after the number: 100 กรัม, not กรัม 100. Do not confuse it with กิโลกรัม (“kilogram”), which is 1,000 grams. In everyday speech, กรัม is used when talking about both mass and weight without a strict scientific distinction.
