This expression combines ไป “to go” with พบ “to meet.” Its core image is going somewhere for the purpose of meeting someone. The usual pattern is ไปพบ followed by a person. พบ sounds somewhat more formal than เจอ and is especially common for scheduled meetings, business visits, and appointments, though it can also be used with friends. ไปพบแพทย์ literally refers to going to meet a physician, but naturally means “to see a doctor” or “to seek medical care.” With another professional, such as a lawyer, it can mean going for a consultation.
