กรรไกร is the ordinary, neutral Thai noun for scissors. It covers many kinds of scissors used for cutting paper, cloth, hair, and similar materials. To say “cut something with scissors,” use a construction such as ใช้กรรไกรตัด〜, literally “use scissors to cut〜.” กรรไกร itself is not a verb meaning “to cut.” The usual classifier is เล่ม, as in กรรไกรหนึ่งเล่ม, “one pair of scissors.” คม describes sharp, effective blades, while ทื่อ describes dull ones. In rock-paper-scissors, the same word also names the scissors hand sign.
Usage
