Explanation
เหลน is the ordinary kinship term for the child of one’s grandchild. The generations can be remembered as ลูก “child” → หลาน “grandchild” → เหลน “great-grandchild.” The word itself is gender-neutral. เหลนชาย can specify a great-grandson, and เหลนสาว a great-granddaughter. Since it refers to a person, คน is used as its classifier: เหลนสองคน means “two great-grandchildren.”
Usage
It is commonly used when introducing relatives, describing a family tree, or talking about the birth or number of great-grandchildren. It is standard in both conversation and writing.
