In combinations such as พูดพล่าม, it describes the manner of speaking. It is often used for drunken babbling, repetitive excuses, or unsupported claims delivered at length. The word readily conveys annoyance or contempt. Addressing someone directly with อย่ามาพล่าม can sound quite hostile.
Usage
Used critically when someone rambles without getting to the point, babbles while drunk, or keeps offering excuses or unsupported claims. It commonly appears in everyday speech and dialogue in stories.
Caution
This is not a neutral equivalent of “speak.” Use พูด for ordinary speaking, or พูดนาน and พูดยืดยาว when merely describing a long speech. Calling another person's speech พล่าม—especially to their face or when speaking to a senior—can be insulting.
