Explanation
This is a loanword from English “dollar.” It can refer both to the currency itself and to the unit used for stating an amount. Amounts are formed with a number followed by ดอลลาร์, as in สิบดอลลาร์ (“ten dollars”). No additional classifier is normally needed. A country name may be added for clarity, as in ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ (“US dollar”).
Usage
It is commonly used when discussing overseas travel, purchases, currency exchange, international payments and prices, or financial news.
Caution
ดอลลาร์ alone may not identify which country’s dollar is meant. In contracts, transfers, and other contexts requiring precision, specify the country, as in ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ for the US dollar.
