Explanation
ทั้งที่ is usually followed by a clause, as in ทั้งที่รู้แล้ว “even though someone already knew” or ทั้งที่ไม่มีเงิน “even though someone has no money.” It can appear at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence. It is sometimes used together with แต่, as in ทั้งที่ A แต่ B, but in English this is usually translated simply as “even though A, B.” Depending on context, it can carry frustration, surprise, disappointment, or mild blame.
Usage
It is common in everyday speech, explanations, news, and social media. Use it when the background fact and the actual result do not line up, such as someone not coming despite promising, failing despite preparing, or buying something expensive despite having no money.
Caution
Do not use it as a simple connector like “and” or “so.” It always creates a concessive or contrasting relationship. When directed at someone, it can sound blaming depending on tone and context.
