อีกครั้ง combines อีก, meaning “more” or “another,” with ครั้ง, a word used for counting occurrences. Its literal sense is therefore “one more time.” It usually follows the verb: พูดอีกครั้ง means “say again,” and อ่านอีกครั้ง means “read again.” It can refer either to something recurring or to an action that will be repeated. The expanded form อีกครั้งหนึ่ง has essentially the same meaning, with หนึ่ง making the idea of “one time” slightly more explicit. The shorter อีกครั้ง is common in both conversation and writing.

Usage

Commonly used when asking someone to repeat what they said, trying something again after a failure, reviewing information, or describing an event that will recur. It is also natural when repeating thanks or another message, as in ขอบคุณอีกครั้ง, “Thank you again.”

Caution

อีกครั้ง repeats an action or event; it does not mean an additional item. For “another cup of coffee,” use อีก with a number and classifier, as in กาแฟอีกหนึ่งแก้ว, rather than กาแฟอีกครั้ง.
