ครับ is one of the most common polite markers in Thai, mainly used by male speakers. It does not change the grammar of the sentence; it adds politeness, respect, or softness toward the listener. In basic learning, male speakers use ครับ, while female speakers use ค่ะ or คะ. In casual texting, it may be shortened to คับ, but ครับ is the standard spelling.
Usage
It is used widely in everyday polite situations: meeting someone, ordering at a shop or restaurant, speaking at work or school, on the phone, or in customer service. It can also be used with friends when the speaker wants to sound softer or more respectful.
Caution
Adding ครับ does not automatically make a harsh or overly direct sentence polite. Also, female speakers normally use ค่ะ or คะ as the standard polite particles instead.
