The word can be analyzed as พิพิธ, meaning “various,” plus ภัณฑ์, meaning “objects” or “articles,” though learners will usually find it more useful to remember the whole word as “museum.” A field can be added after it to identify the type of museum, as in พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะ, “art museum.” The classifier แห่ง is commonly used when counting museums, as in พิพิธภัณฑ์สามแห่ง, “three museums.”
