โรงเรียนอนุบาล

Explanation

The word combines โรงเรียน (“school”) with อนุบาล (“kindergarten-level care and education”). When the context is clear, อนุบาล alone is also commonly used for kindergarten or the kindergarten level. In Thailand, grades are often called อนุบาล 1, อนุบาล 2, and อนุบาล 3. When counting these institutions, แห่ง can be used as the classifier: โรงเรียนอนุบาลหนึ่งแห่ง means “one kindergarten.”

Usage

It is commonly used when discussing kindergarten enrollment, attendance, transportation, school closures, tuition, or choosing a school. It also appears in educational information and in school names formed with โรงเรียนอนุบาล followed by a place name.

Caution

A school whose official name contains โรงเรียนอนุบาล may also offer primary grades or other levels. When it is part of a proper name, the name alone does not always show every grade currently offered.
