The core idea of เกี่ยวกับ is a connection between one thing and another topic, person, or matter. It can introduce a topic after a verb, as in คุยเกี่ยวกับงาน (“talk about work”). It can also follow a noun and describe its subject matter, as in หนังสือเกี่ยวกับประเทศไทย (“a book about Thailand”). In a sentence such as เรื่องนี้เกี่ยวกับคุณ (“This matter concerns you”), it functions as a verb meaning that something is related to someone or something. Although the expression can be analyzed as เกี่ยว plus กับ, learners will usually find it more practical to remember เกี่ยวกับ as a single unit. It is neutral and common in both everyday conversation and formal writing.

Usage

It is commonly used to introduce the subject of a conversation, question, book, movie, news report, lesson, or document. It is also used to say that a person or thing is connected with an issue or event.

Caution

เกี่ยวกับ does not itself mean “talk.” To say “talk about…,” use พูดเกี่ยวกับ… or คุยเกี่ยวกับ…. In casual speech, the object may be omitted when it is clear from context, as in ไม่เกี่ยว (“It’s unrelated” or “It’s none of your business”). When naming what something is unrelated to, use the full form, as in ไม่เกี่ยวกับฉัน (“It has nothing to do with me”).
