Explanation
The expression combines ชั้น, meaning “class” or “level,” with ประหยัด, meaning “economical” or “to save.” It most commonly refers to economy class on an airplane. It can also follow another noun, as in ตั๋วชั้นประหยัด, “economy-class ticket,” and ที่นั่งชั้นประหยัด, “economy-class seat.” It names an official fare or service class; it does not imply that something is simply cheap or poor in quality.
Usage
It is commonly used when searching for or booking flights, checking in at an airport, or discussing seat and fare classes.
Caution
Do not normally use ชั้นประหยัด merely to mean “cheap.” Use ราคาถูก for something inexpensive or ราคาประหยัด for something affordably priced. ชั้นประหยัด generally refers to an established service class.
