This is a Thai borrowing of the English word “admin.” In modern Thai, it is especially common for someone who runs a social media page, chat group, or online shop. Customers may address the staff member directly as แอดมินคะ or แอดมินครับ without knowing the person’s name. In IT contexts, it can also mean an administrator who configures and maintains a system. When counting admins, the classifier คน is used, as in แอดมินหนึ่งคน.
Usage
It is common when contacting a social media page, checking stock with an online shop, reporting a problem in a group, or requesting that a post be removed. In workplaces, it is also used for someone responsible for account permissions or system settings.
Caution
It is normally a noun referring to a person, not a verb meaning “to manage.” An online shop’s แอดมิน is not necessarily the owner or an IT specialist; the person may simply handle customer messages. In highly formal writing, a term such as ผู้ดูแลระบบ is usually more appropriate.
