Explanation
ซีดี is the Thai-script form of the English abbreviation “CD,” short for “compact disc.” It can refer to music CDs as well as discs containing software or other data. In conversation, it may also refer to an album or another work released on CD rather than only to the physical disc. The classifier is แผ่น, used for thin, flat objects. For example, “two CDs” is ซีดีสองแผ่น. The form แผ่นซีดี can be used when referring explicitly to the physical disc.
Usage
It is used when talking about buying, collecting, lending, or playing music CDs, as well as storing computer data on a disc. Today it also commonly appears when CDs are compared with streaming services, USB drives, or other media.
Caution
ซีดี specifically means a CD and should not be confused with ดีวีดี, “DVD.” When stating a quantity, normally use the classifier แผ่น, as in ซีดีสองแผ่น, “two CDs.”
