Explanation
หยุดพัก combines หยุด, “stop,” with พัก, “rest.” Its basic image is stopping what you are doing for a while in order to rest. It normally describes a temporary break rather than the permanent end of an activity. Common patterns include หยุดพักสักครู่, “take a short break,” and หยุดพักระหว่างทาง, “stop for a break along the way.”
Usage
It is commonly used when taking a break from work, studying, driving, exercise, or travel. It also works naturally when suggesting a break or advising someone to rest at regular intervals.
Caution
หยุด by itself can mean simply “stop” or “quit,” and may indicate that an activity has ended. หยุดพัก instead suggests a temporary pause for rest. Also, although พัก can mean “stay overnight,” หยุดพัก does not normally carry that meaning.
