Explanation

เหมือนกัน combines เหมือน (“to be the same or similar”) with กัน and is extremely common in everyday Thai. When several subjects are compared together, it means that they are the same or alike. It does not always imply perfect identity; the intended degree of similarity depends on context. When referring back to an earlier statement, it commonly appears in the pattern ก็ ... เหมือนกัน, meaning “too” or “as well.” Repeated information may be omitted, as in ฉันก็เหมือนกัน (“Me too”).

Usage

Commonly used when people share an opinion, preference, or feeling, and when comparing the appearance, qualities, or meanings of several things. It is also frequent in conversation and chat when adding that the same statement applies to someone else, as in “I like it too” or “He is going too.”

Caution

To say that A is like B with B stated directly, use A เหมือน B, not A เหมือนกัน B. Also, เหมือนกัน alone may mean either identical or merely alike; when the distinction matters, use a more specific expression such as เดียวกัน for the very same one or คล้ายกัน for similar things.
