Explanation

ฝันดี combines ฝัน, “dream” or “to dream,” with ดี, “good.” When said directly to someone, it is usually understood as the bedtime wish “Sweet dreams” or “Good night,” rather than simply as the noun “a good dream.” Adding นะ makes the wish sound gentle and friendly. For polite speech, a man can add ครับ and a woman can add ค่ะ. Within a sentence, it can function as a verb meaning “to have a good dream.” It can also be a noun meaning “a good or favorable dream”; when such dreams are counted, the classifier เรื่อง is used.

Usage

It is commonly used with family, friends, or partners at bedtime and when ending a late-night call or chat because someone is going to sleep. It also appears in ordinary statements about dreams, especially with time expressions such as เมื่อคืน, “last night.”

Caution

ฝันดี is not a general farewell used merely because it is nighttime; it normally assumes that the other person is about to sleep. When intended as the noun “a good dream,” it may need sentence context because the expression by itself is usually heard as a bedtime wish.
