The core image is swinging the foot to strike something. The basic pattern is เตะ followed by the target, as in เตะประตู “kick a door” and เตะบอล “kick a ball.” In conversation, เตะบอล can also refer more generally to playing soccer. From this physical sense comes the informal pattern เตะออกจาก + a group or place, meaning to kick someone out or remove them forcibly. เตะออกจากกลุ่ม is particularly common when an admin removes a member from a chat or social-media group. Expressions such as เตะตา “catch the eye” and เตะถ่วง “stall or deliberately delay” have meanings that belong to the whole expression and are best learned as fixed combinations.

Usage

Caution

Do not confuse เตะ “kick” with แตะ “touch lightly; tap.” The uninterrupted phrase แตะออกจากกลุ่ม does not normally mean “remove someone from a group.” In an interface instruction, however, แตะ “ออกจากกลุ่ม” means “tap ‘Leave group.’” Also, ออกจากกลุ่ม by itself usually means that someone leaves the group voluntarily. เตะออกจากกลุ่ม means that another person forcibly removes them and can sound blunt, so นำออกจากกลุ่ม or another neutral expression is preferable in formal contexts.
