Explanation
This expression combines เสียใจ, which can mean to feel sad, sorry, or regretful, with ภายหลัง, meaning “later” or “afterward.” Adding ภายหลัง makes the idea of later regret much clearer than เสียใจ alone. Common patterns include จะเสียใจภายหลัง (“will regret it later”) and ไม่อยากเสียใจภายหลัง (“do not want to regret it later”). It works in both conversation and writing, though ภายหลัง sounds slightly more formal than the conversational ทีหลัง.
Usage
It is commonly used when warning someone to think carefully before making a decision or when saying that failing to act now may lead to regret. It can also describe looking back and regretting something one did—or failed to do.
Caution
เสียใจ by itself can also mean “feel sad,” “feel sorry,” or “be sorry.” With ภายหลัง, the phrase normally refers specifically to regret that arises later, not simply to present sadness. In casual conversation, เสียใจทีหลัง is also common.
