บ่ายสามโมง is formed from บ่าย (afternoon), สาม (three), and โมง (a word used in telling daytime hours). In a sentence, it often works like “at 3 p.m.” Thai normally places the time directly after the relevant verb or phrase without a preposition: เจอกันบ่ายสามโมง means “Let’s meet at 3 p.m.” It may also appear as เวลาบ่ายสามโมง, but บ่ายสามโมง alone is usually enough in ordinary conversation.
Usage
It is commonly used to give a specific time for meetings, appointments, classes, and other plans. It can also stand alone as an answer to กี่โมง (“What time?”).
Caution
Do not confuse it with ตีสาม, which means 3 a.m. The word order is fixed; โมงสาม is not the standard way to say 3 p.m.
