This verb phrase combines ได้, “get,” with กำไร, “profit.” It is suitable for both everyday conversation and business discussions. If you buy an item for 100 baht and sell it for 150 baht with no other costs, you can say ได้กำไร 50 บาท, “make a profit of 50 baht.” The amount of profit goes directly after the phrase. Here, ได้ means “get”; it does not mark past tense. จะได้กำไร refers to an expected future profit.
Usage
Use it when discussing profits from selling goods, running a shop, or investing, including whether a proposed price will be profitable. ได้กำไรเท่าไหร่ asks “How much profit did you make?”
Caution
ได้เงิน means to receive money; it does not necessarily mean you made a profit. Revenue must exceed costs for there to be a profit. ไม่ได้กำไร, “not make a profit,” does not necessarily mean ขาดทุน, “make a loss.” It can also describe breaking even.
