Explanation

This is a loanword from English “furniture” and is completely ordinary in modern Thai. It can refer to an individual piece or to furniture collectively, including chairs, tables, sofas, beds, shelves, and cabinets. ชิ้น can be used to count individual pieces: เฟอร์นิเจอร์หนึ่งชิ้น means “one piece of furniture.” Use ชุด for a set, as in เฟอร์นิเจอร์หนึ่งชุด. When naming a specific item such as a chair or table, its usual classifier is generally preferred.

Usage

Common when buying or arranging furniture, moving, decorating a room, or shopping in stores and online. It is also frequent in real-estate descriptions of furnished rooms and fully furnished properties, as well as in discussions of office or commercial furnishings.

Caution

Electrical appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners are not normally included; they are called เครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้า. The word เฟอร์นิเจอร์ does not change form when referring to multiple pieces of furniture.
