Explanation
ฟ้า is an everyday word for the sky. It commonly appears before words describing sky conditions: ฟ้าใส means “the sky is clear,” and ฟ้ามืด means “the sky is dark.” The latter can describe darkness after sunset or a sky darkened by rain clouds. For the color, the usual form is สีฟ้า, with สี meaning “color.” Place it after an object to describe that object's color. When the context clearly involves colors, สี can be omitted, as in ตัวฟ้า, “the light blue one,” when choosing clothing. Learn ฟ้าร้อง, ฟ้าผ่า, and ฟ้าแลบ as complete expressions. They distinguish thunder, a lightning strike, and a flash of lightning.
Usage
Use ฟ้า when talking about sky conditions, daylight, or scenery. Its color use is common when shopping for clothes or household items and when discussing color preferences.
Caution
ฟ้า does not cover weather conditions in general. To say “It's hot today,” use วันนี้อากาศร้อน; ฟ้า cannot replace อากาศ in this sentence.
