Explanation
ผู้คน is a collective noun for the people found in a city, society, community, or other situation. It directs attention to people as a group rather than identifying particular individuals. Although it consists of ผู้ and คน, the complete expression conventionally means “people.” It is natural in conversation and especially common in news, explanatory writing, social commentary, and descriptions of public places. Common patterns include ผู้คนในเมืองนี้ (“the people in this town”) and วิถีชีวิตของผู้คน (“people’s way of life”).
Usage
Use it to describe people in streets, stations, festivals, or tourist areas, and when discussing the lives, behavior, or reactions of people in society. It fits statements such as “The street is full of people” or “People around the world are paying attention.”
Caution
ผู้คน normally does not refer to just one person or accompany an exact head count. Say สามคน for “three people,” not ผู้คนสามคน. For citizens or the public in a civic or political sense, ประชาชน may be more appropriate.
