It also appears in political, business, and sports contexts when a rival or threat is eliminated. It is standard in both everyday and official language, though it can sound forceful.

Caution

When the object is a person, กำจัด can sound threatening. Expressions such as กำจัดคู่แข่ง or กำจัดศัตรู may imply ruining, completely eliminating, or even killing the person—not merely asking them to leave. Use a more specific verb such as เอาออก for neutral removal or ไล่ออก for dismissal when appropriate. Do not confuse กำจัด with the similarly spelled จำกัด, which means “to limit” or “restrict.”
