ไปเยี่ยม combines ไป, “to go,” with เยี่ยม, “to visit a person.” The basic pattern is ไปเยี่ยม + person. A location can be added with ที่, as in ไปเยี่ยมเพื่อนที่บ้าน, “go visit a friend at their home.” The expression normally implies that seeing the person is the purpose of the trip. It works for ordinary visits to friends or relatives and for visits made out of concern, such as seeing someone in the hospital. Use มาเยี่ยม instead when the visitor comes toward the speaker or another established reference point.
