จริงๆ is the emphatic repeated form of จริง, meaning “true” or “real.” Its central idea is that something is genuinely the case—not merely apparent, playful, or insincere. After an evaluation, as in อร่อยจริงๆ, it emphasizes a genuine reaction: “really delicious.” When it applies to a whole statement, as in ฉันไม่รู้จริงๆ, it reinforces the truth or sincerity of what is being said. จริงๆ แล้ว is a very common expression meaning “actually” or “in fact,” often used to introduce the real situation or the speaker’s honest feelings. In standard writing, the repetition mark is normally separated by a space: จริง ๆ. The unspaced form จริงๆ is nevertheless extremely common in chats, social media, and subtitles.

Usage

It is extremely common in everyday conversation when assuring someone that a statement is true, expressing a sincere opinion or feeling, correcting an assumption, or revealing the actual situation. It is also frequently used as “Really?” in response to surprising information.

Caution

Although จริงๆ can sometimes be translated as “very,” it is not identical to มาก. มาก mainly marks a high degree, while จริงๆ emphasizes that the description or feeling is genuine. For the meaning “actually” or “in fact,” learn จริงๆ แล้ว as a set expression. แล้ว cannot simply be added after every use of จริงๆ.
