Explanation

อร่อย is an extremely common word used for food, sweets, fruit, drinks, and anything else that tastes good. Thai adjectives normally follow the noun they modify, so อาหารอร่อย means “delicious food.” The word can also function directly as a predicate, as in อาหารนี้อร่อย, “This food is delicious,” without เป็น. Common patterns include อร่อยมาก (“very delicious”), ไม่อร่อย (“not tasty”), and อร่อยไหม (“Does it taste good?”). ร้านนี้อร่อย literally describes the restaurant as delicious, but naturally means that the food served there is good. กินให้อร่อยนะ is a friendly wish meaning “Enjoy your meal.” It is not a fixed phrase equivalent to something said by the person who is about to start eating.

Used constantly at home, restaurants, food stalls, and cafés to comment on food or drinks. It is natural when asking how something tastes, praising a dish, recommending a place for its food, or wishing someone an enjoyable meal.

Caution

Do not add เป็น when saying that something is delicious: อาหารนี้อร่อย is correct, while อาหารนี้เป็นอร่อย is not. When applied to a person, อร่อย can have a slangy, sexual sense similar to calling someone “tasty,” so learners should generally reserve it for food and drinks.
