Explanation
มน usually describes a shape with no sharp point or angular edge. It does not necessarily mean that the whole object is circular. It commonly follows nouns referring to parts or outlines, as in ปลายมน “rounded tip,” ใบมน “round-tipped leaf,” and หัวมน “rounded head or end.” The combination กลมมน emphasizes a smooth, softly rounded contour. Some dictionaries also list meanings such as “mind” or “stationary” in specialized astrological usage. These are not productive meanings in ordinary modern conversation and are therefore excluded here.
Usage
Used when describing rounded leaf tips, facial contours, shoe toes, tool ends, and other shapes without a sharp point. It also appears in product descriptions and descriptions of plants or living things.
Caution
Use กลม when describing an object as round overall. มน is more appropriate for a rounded tip, corner, or contour. Do not normally use มน for “mind” or “heart” in everyday Thai; ใจ or จิตใจ is used instead.
