The central idea of ดิบ is that an expected transformation has not yet taken place. For meat or fish, that transformation is cooking; for fruit, ripening; for oil or data, refining or processing; and for creative work or ability, polishing and development. It normally follows the noun it modifies, as in เนื้อดิบ (raw meat), มะม่วงดิบ (unripe mango), and ข้อมูลดิบ (raw data). สุก is its common opposite when talking about food and fruit. อาหารสุก is cooked food, while ผลไม้สุก is ripe fruit. When applied to someone's skill or work, ดิบ may sound critical, suggesting inexperience or an unfinished result. In music and art, however, it can be complimentary, describing something direct, powerful, and intentionally unpolished.
