The core idea of ที่สุด is reaching a point beyond which there is nothing higher or further. The basic pattern is “descriptive or stative word + ที่สุด.” For example, ดีที่สุด means “best,” สวยที่สุด means “most beautiful,” and แพงที่สุด means “most expensive.” Unlike English “most,” ที่สุด comes after the word it modifies. The comparison group can be added afterward, often with ใน, as in สูงที่สุดในโลก, “the highest in the world.” It may be omitted when the context makes the comparison clear. It also follows words expressing preferences or states, as in ชอบ…ที่สุด, “like … the most.” In ให้ดีที่สุด, it conveys doing something to the best possible degree. ในที่สุด is a fixed expression meaning “finally” or “eventually”; it does not function as an ordinary superlative there.
