Explanation
This is a standard word used in everyday conversation and business. It applies to online and print ads as well as broadcast commercials. It does not inherently suggest exaggeration or dishonesty. It functions as a verb in โฆษณาสินค้า, “advertise a product,” and as a noun in ดูโฆษณา, “watch an ad.” การโฆษณา commonly refers to advertising as an activity. Individual advertisements can generally be counted with the classifier ชิ้น: โฆษณา 2 ชิ้น means “two ads.”
Usage
Use it when talking about skipping video ads, discussing a memorable commercial, or finding a product you saw advertised. At work, it comes up in discussions of product promotion, ad placement, and advertising costs.
Caution
For simply notifying someone of a schedule or change, use แจ้ง; for making a public announcement, use ประกาศ. โฆษณา generally suggests promotion, so it is usually unsuitable for a purely informational notice.
