Explanation

ทราบ is a polite verb for knowing facts, information, or circumstances. It sounds more formal and respectful than รู้ and is common at work, in customer service, in official announcements, and when speaking respectfully. ทราบว่า followed by a clause means “know that….” ไม่ทราบว่า can politely introduce a question, much like “Could you tell me…?” ทราบแล้วครับ/ค่ะ is also used to acknowledge a message or instruction: “Understood.” The verb can describe either already knowing something or becoming aware of it. Contextual words such as แล้ว (“already”) and เพิ่ง (“just”) clarify the intended reading.

Usage

It is commonly used to ask for information politely, acknowledge workplace messages or instructions, and communicate in customer-service or official settings. In relaxed conversation among friends, รู้ is usually more natural.

Caution

ทราบ is mainly used with facts and information. Use รู้จัก for being acquainted with a person. To say that someone knows how to do something or has a learned ability, รู้ or เป็น is usually more appropriate.
