กระผม is a highly deferential first-person pronoun used by a male speaker. Compared with the ordinary polite pronoun ผม, it places greater emphasis on humility and respect for the listener. Its use in modern everyday conversation is limited. It is most likely to occur in ceremonial speech, respectful reports to a superior, or settings with a clearly marked hierarchy. It may be accompanied by the polite sentence ending ครับ.
Usage
It is used in formal reports to superiors, ceremonial addresses, and deferential replies within a strong hierarchy. It also appears in dialogue set in earlier periods. It is uncommon in ordinary workplace, customer-service, or friendly conversation.
Caution
For an ordinarily polite “I,” ผม is usually the natural choice. Frequent use of กระผม in everyday conversation can sound excessively submissive, theatrical, or intentionally humorous.
