Explanation
เปลี่ยนไป combines เปลี่ยน, “to change,” with ไป. Here, ไป does not literally mean “to go”; it suggests movement away from an earlier state. It can describe changes in personality, behavior, appearance, ideas, life, society, or circumstances. The expression itself is neutral—the context determines whether the change is good or bad.
Usage
Commonly used when someone seems different after a period of time, or when describing how ideas, a person's life, or a situation differs from the past. It is natural in both conversation and writing.
Caution
เปลี่ยนไป alone does not specify exactly how something changed. Add expressions such as เปลี่ยนไปมาก, “change a lot,” or เปลี่ยนไปในทางที่ดี, “change for the better,” when needed. To say that someone deliberately changes something, เปลี่ยน is normally used transitively instead.
