The core idea of ฉบับ is a complete unit of written or published content. As a classifier, the usual counting pattern is “noun + number + ฉบับ,” as in จดหมายหนึ่งฉบับ, “one letter.” It also appears before a demonstrative or modifier: จดหมายฉบับนี้ means “this letter,” and หนังสือพิมพ์ฉบับวันนี้ means “today’s newspaper.” As a noun, it is commonly followed by information identifying the issue or version. For example, ฉบับล่าสุด means “the latest issue/version,” while ฉบับภาษาอังกฤษ means “the English-language version.”
Usage
It is common when counting letters and documents, specifying the number of contract copies, or identifying an issue of a newspaper or magazine. It is also used to distinguish translations, revised editions, drafts, and other forms of the same content.
Caution
ฉบับ does not count individual sheets or pages. Use แผ่น for a sheet and หน้า for a page. When counting physical books as bound volumes, เล่ม is normally used instead.
