Explanation
The central idea of ราชการ is work or activity belonging to the government and public administration. In modern Thai, it is not normally limited to affairs of the monarchy. As a noun, it can refer broadly to government service, administration, or the civil-service system. In expressions such as ติดต่อราชการ and ไปราชการ, it refers more concretely to dealing with a government office or traveling on official business. After another noun, it indicates a government or official connection, as in รถราชการ, “an official government vehicle.” Grammatically, Thai descriptions may also analyze this as a noun modifying another noun rather than as a separate adjective.
Usage
It is common when discussing applications or inquiries at government offices, civil-service careers, official travel, and public administration. It also appears frequently in government notices, news reports, official documents, and workplace conversations.
Caution
ราชการ does not itself mean a civil servant; use ข้าราชการ for the person. Also, วันราชการ means a government working day, not a public holiday. The word is not normally used for the ordinary business of a private company.
