Explanation

กังขา is a fairly formal word for doubt. It usually suggests more than simply not knowing an answer: the speaker is unsure whether a claim, explanation, or situation can be trusted or accepted. As a verb, it commonly appears in กังขาใน + the object of doubt or กังขาว่า + a clause. For noun use, ความกังขา refers to doubt as a state, while ข้อกังขา often refers to a particular unresolved concern. Common combinations include เกิดความกังขา “doubts arise,” มีข้อกังขา “have unresolved concerns,” and คลายข้อกังขา “clear up doubts.”

Usage

It is often used when questioning the transparency of a policy or election, the credibility of an official explanation, the accuracy of evidence, or a person’s ability. It fits news reports, official statements, meetings, and formal commentary particularly well.

Caution

For neutral everyday uncertainty or curiosity, สงสัย is usually more natural. กังขา can imply distrust or criticism, so using it directly about someone or their statement may sound pointed. It also does not mean a question in the sense of คำถาม.
