This is the standard word for a dictionary, covering both dictionaries that explain words in the same language and those that provide translations. It is also used in everyday conversation. The language pair or format follows the noun: พจนานุกรมไทย-ญี่ปุ่น means “Thai–Japanese dictionary,” and พจนานุกรมออนไลน์ means “online dictionary.” For bilingual dictionaries, the source language usually comes first, followed by the language of the translations. Use the classifier เล่ม for dictionaries in book form: พจนานุกรมสองเล่ม means “two dictionaries,” and พจนานุกรมเล่มนี้ means “this dictionary.”
