Explanation
มาถึง combines มา “come” with ถึง “reach.” Its central image is coming toward a relevant point and reaching it. มาถึงแล้ว, meaning “I’ve arrived” or “It has arrived,” is extremely common in everyday conversation. A destination can normally follow the verb directly, as in มาถึงบ้าน “arrive home.” ยังมาไม่ถึง means “hasn’t arrived yet.” The expression also extends beyond physical movement to time and progress, as in มาถึงวันนี้ “up to today” and มาถึงขั้นนี้ “reach this stage.”
Usage
Commonly used to announce an arrival, ask when someone will arrive, or check whether a person, vehicle, or delivery has arrived. It is also used when describing a project reaching a stage, time advancing to a particular point, or a discussion coming to a subject.
Caution
ถึง alone means “reach” or “arrive” without necessarily showing direction. Use มาถึง when the arrival is viewed as coming toward the relevant location, and ไปถึง when it is viewed as going away and reaching another destination. A destination usually follows directly, as in มาถึงบ้าน, without an added preposition.
