Explanation

After a noun, ด่วน marks something as urgent: งานด่วน means an urgent task, and เรื่องด่วน means an urgent matter. After an action, it calls for prompt action, as in โทรกลับด่วน, “Call back urgently.” ด่วนมาก and ด่วนที่สุด indicate increasing levels of urgency. On a notice or headline, ด่วน! can stand alone as “Urgent!” or “Breaking!” Before verbs of judgment, it can imply insufficient consideration. A common pattern is อย่าด่วน + verb: อย่าด่วนสรุป means “Don't jump to conclusions.”

Usage

Common in urgent work requests, messages asking for a quick response, and situations where something is needed right away. It also appears in breaking-news alerts and express-service descriptions, and in advice against rushing a decision.

Caution

For ordinary physical speed, use เร็ว, as in เดินเร็ว, “walk fast.” Adding ด่วน to a request can make it sound pressing or demanding. A request form such as ช่วยส่งให้ด่วนได้ไหม, “Could you send it urgently?”, with ครับ or ค่ะ, helps keep the tone polite.
