Terms of office can be counted, as in สองวาระ (“two terms”) or วาระละสี่ปี (“four years per term”). The established expression วาระซ่อนเร้น means “hidden agenda”: an intention or objective that has not been stated openly.
Usage
It is frequently used to list agenda items and guide proceedings in meetings. In political and administrative contexts, it commonly refers to terms of office or high-priority public issues. Formal greetings and official messages often use ในวาระ... (“on the occasion of ...”). วาระสุดท้าย is a solemn, indirect way to refer to the final stage or final moments of a person's life.
Caution
วาระ does not mean ordinary clock time or duration; เวลา is normally used for those meanings. วาระการประชุม focuses on the matters to be discussed, whereas กำหนดการประชุม is the meeting schedule or program, including timing and planned activities. Also, วาระซ่อนเร้น implies a concealed and potentially questionable motive, so it can sound accusatory when applied to a person.
